Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
As part of our action research into ways we could use facebook as a learning platform, a group of teachers in a small country school, Mortlake P12 College, in rural Western Victoria, Australia, invented our own internet craze using facebook , by setting up a teapotting facebook group in opposition to the potentially dangerous planking group. What started out as a bit of fun, overnight turned into a social networking group that now boasts 5000 plus fans. In this time, many rather amazing learning adventures have taken place and the power and potential of social networking in education has become increasingly apparent. Salient lessons about social media, social responsibility and mainstream global moral panics along the way, were learnt and experienced. It has taken on global proportions. In this session Anne de Manser will share some of these stories and outline some of the ways that the globe has connected with students and teachers through the facebook teapot group page and other ways her school is using Facebook to enhance student learning.
