Fourth graders in our school are singing 'Light the Candles All Around the World' by Teresa Jennings for their holiday concert on December 15th.  I have invited interested teachers, students and friends to share a photo of a candle from wherever they are located to add to our google map.  The image that is shared can be a scanned drawing, an original photo of a candle with or without students (back of head okay).  No student names are included.   If you'd like to join this short project, click on the link http://www.earthcircles.weebly.com  for additional information and to view the map. Thank you!

  • Thanks to all who viewed or tweeted this discussion.  The fourth graders sang 'Light the Candles All Around the World' on Thursday night to a full auditorium of family members and friends.  I know that the Light the Candles song had special meaning to them since they had the chance to click on all of the blue placemarks on the google map to see faces and images shared from across the globe.  The students pointed out similarities that they saw in the photos, for example many photos included advent wreaths. And differences--participants in warmer climates wore short sleeved shirts and shorts.  I invited all of the students' families to share the link with other family members and friends and invite them to light a candle.  And I extend that invite once again to  the online community to take a moment to take out a cellphone or digital camera and share a candlelight with us.  Thanks again for all of your support!

    • I'm happy to report that we have received a candle from Indonesia, Germany, Philippines, Japan, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Argentina, Canada, Trinidad, Spain, Nepal, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, and Taiwan.  It's been great fun to see the different kinds of candles  As we welcome in the new year, we also welcome your photograph or drawing of a candle from wherever in the global community you are located.  Thanks again!
