Full Session Description (one paragraph minimum):
Technology has a transformed the manner in which we connect and communicate not only at the local level but at a global level. Today’s students need to learn at the local level and become aware of the global cultures. As educators we need to have students work with projects that make local-global connections. How can we make this happen, while simultaneously keeping our students safe in the ubiquitous world of the Internet?
In this session, through two ongoing projects, we would like to share how an online collaborative platform known as Rasa Tabula, is helping local students and teachers connect with others across the globe. In the first project, students of a non-profit organization Grameen Pragati collaborate and share photos, fund raising efforts and stories with a school in rural India, which services villages which are without electricity. Using Rasa Tabula the students upload stories, chat with each other and share knowledge of each other’s world. This interaction provides very relevant feedback to the non-profit organization of its impact on solving real world problems while educating the coming generation. Empowering Youth is a project that Mendy Kanu the media Director, from a local school in Freedom Town, Sierra Leonne wants to share their school culture with other students in the U.S.A. Mr. Kanu has shared his videos giving us an insight in to their world. Their school’s mission is to minimize the high level of illiteracy and to offer free education to children in poverty that cannot afford the cost of education. Using features of Rasa Tabula, Mr. Kanu has been able to set up lesson plans and uploaded free resources available for students to learn online. We would like to connect more classrooms for children in this space to learn about their culture.
The sharing of these projects promotes global awareness and inspires towards solving real-world problems for the upcoming student generation. Rasa Tabula facilitates multi group dynamic communication and collaboration in a safe and secure ONE online space.
