Hola!  I'm a high school teacher in Ohio who is looking to collaborate with another high school Spanish teacher or an English teacher in a Spanish speaking country.  I have been working with several teachers in the US with great success, and would welcome other collaborations.  My students are in Sp III, and I am interested in using web 2.0 tools (such as Skype, Voicethread, Ning etc) to facilitate the collaboration.

  • I´m interested in using Skype in class. I´m an ESL teacher in Spain and we´re working Skype with other schools in the US and other parts of Europe.  Contact me to organise sessions.  Thanks.

  • Sherry,

Are you still there? I've finally made it to Colombia -- after wrapping things up in Hong Kong and after our big trip thru the States to Colombia. I'm now in preparation for school and doing lesson planning, so I'm thinking again about you and your class. How are your interactive collaborations going? I would still very much like to incorporate "online collaboration" into my Maths lessons with our 95% Spanish-native-speakers, even though they're studying in the English language. Have any suggestions. Trans-disciplinary stuff is even better.
  • Hi Sherry and Paula,

I'm a middle school math and ESL teacher currently living and teaching in Hong Kong, but my family is now headed back to Colombia, South America. I will have classes of middle school maths students at a reputable bilingual international school there called Anglo Colombiano. I have been brainstorming methods ideas for procedures and activities around which to build my daily lessons. Doing collaborative projects in the online environment with your class would be perfect. My students' first language is Spanish, but 80% of their learning is done in English (this percentage goes down in the last two years of secondary). I also have dabbled in web 2.0.... see my websites that I have created.... http://www.mountaintoplearning.com..... http://www.academyofjazz.com..... let's see what we can do.
    • Gregory!! Where have you been all my life :) I was born in Bogotá & went to el Colegio Bolivar in Cali. My father still lives in Bogotá and has been trying very hard to find a school to collaborate with, but one thing or another has really prevented anything from happening. I would love to work with you! It'd be interesting to add a math component to the Spanish class too. Calendario A o B? Let me know how you want to proceed from here...
      • Wow! So ultra cool. I saw your Ning "Comuniquemos" page and it's totally along the lines of what I've been thinking during my recent Masters degree Education studies and research. I had lived in Bogota and had taught at a bilingual school between 2000-2002, and now I'll be arriving there again this July 2010 (after 8 years of training and experience to get back there). So right now I am still preparing, but I CERTAINLY feel that we could form quite a productive and engaging partnership once I start teaching my bilingual students this coming August! Here are some brief details that will help us nut out details...

In the past I have collaborated with ESL teachers... choosing to share posted letters, valued artifacts, and descriptive videos. Here's a link for one such project I did with an American classroom when I first moved to Hong Kong in 2006....

Let's keep the "creative engines" burning....so glad to find you!!
        • My daughter is a Peace Corps volunteer in the DR. She just joined this site yesterday upon my encouragement. Sounds like you and Sherry have some great potential for collaborative projects. My daughter could really use some "handson" materials for her English class with high school students. Her name is Malia Dimler. Just an FYI. I think some of your resources might be helpful to her.
      • Sherry, I wonder if you could help me with the use of voicethread. I went to the voicethread site and viewed the demo and registered. Can you tell me how students can use it in the classroom, do they each have to register or can they interact with any voicethread as long as there is the option? I'm sure I could figure it out sooner later on my own, but you appear to have lots of experience with this already. Thanks. How do I add the tags on this website for the different media used?
  • I teach Spanish in Cody, Wyoming. Presently I have a level 2 class. My daughter is a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic, for this reason I recently downloaded Skype, as my class has been corresponding with a group there. We haven't really been able to connect via Skype yet, as technology at the high school my daughter is at doesn't have access to Skype. I am not familiar with Ning. I am not sure what you have in mind. I have 17 students in this class. Right now we are doing a thematic unit on Telecomunicaciones and are beginning the imperfecto and pretérito tenses. I do have a webpage and perhaps I could build a page to support an exchange. I am open. The semester is flying by!!!! It will be summer before we know it.
    • Hola Paula! I'm so glad to meet you. I would love to brain storm some kind of collaboration, if not involving your daughter & the Dominican students, then certainly with you & your kids. A Ning is what we are on right now. This is my class Ning Right now I am working with a fabulous teacher from CA, but it only involves 2 of my 5 classes. Please check out some of the stuff we are doing and we can set up a time to Skype each other and brain storm ideas. What time does your class meet?
      • We are on a 90 minute block schedule and we meet from 8:03 to 9:41 Mountain Standard time, I think you are 2 hours later in Ohio. My planning time from 12:04-1:41. Our school has a one-to-one computer intiative, meaning all students have their own laptop computer provided by the school disctrict. My skype name is dimler.paula. All for now.
