NOBLE(www.nble.org)  is a group of teachers looking for career academy and foreign language faculty who are interested in collaborating on the development of interdisciplinary curriculum projects that connect language, culture and the professions (i.e. business, medical, legal, etc.).  We are also looking for models of existing career connected language programs to share those approaches with others interested in building something similar at their institution.   Please check out the website and forum at  Network of Business Language Educators.

Let us know if you have student projects already created on this topic.  We would love to create a page on the website to share them.

Thanks,
Mary

  • Mary, you have found one collaborator! Thank you so much for asking. If you go to my site ahaafoundation.org and scroll down and click on Meet Katherine you will find out more about me that you may want to know. I started this project because so many schools have had to drop their art history programs. Please let me know if what I am doing might fit in with what you are doing. If you look at Egypt you will find a video clip where I lecture the words you see on the screen. I wonder if I did more of that, would it be helpful to adults learning English?
    • Thank you, Katherine. I clicked on Egypt and it would not open. We want to show students how cross-cultural understanding and some knowledge of a foreign language can open opportunities to interesting jobs. Traditionally, these skills have been a focus for literature faculty, when it should be infused across disciplines.

Please join the NOBLE Global Workplace Skills ning if you would like and help get the conversation going about innovative materials creation and implementation.

Are you in contact with the CIBER at U. Hawaii? They help support these kinds of projects with USDOE funds.

      Mary
      • Mary, I am so sorry that I did not respond to your post. I got deeply involved with the delegates going to the 5th World Youth Congress which was held in Istanbul and I went with them as a mentor.

My gmail got trashed and I lost most of the information including passwords, contacts and files full of information.

I will follow up on your suggestions on Monday.

The first part of Egypt which is in the Early Civilizations part of the site. You can hear me lecture in some of the pages. I also have a great You Tube clip which shows Egypt as it would have been in color.

Please keep in touch. How is your school year working out?
