Happy New Year to all members of our global community!
This is a quick message regarding one of the documentaries that was featured at the 2011 Global Education Conference, Louder Than a Bomb. LTAB is an inspirational film that celebrates the universal power of spoken word and highlights the stories of high school teenagers who have competed in the "World's Largest Poetry Slam". 2011 GEC attendees were treated to a special virtual screening during the week of the conference, and I'm pleased to report that LTAB will be featured tonight on Oprah Winfrey's Network as part of her documentary series at 9 PM ET/8PM CST! Details about event are available on the OWN web site.
You can also review co-director Greg Jacobs' excellent presentation from the 2011 GEC conference which provides further insight into the film. The documentary will also be screened in various locales, including at New Trier High School in my neck of the woods, on January 12, and it looks like there will be an international screening in British Columbia on February 17. Check out the screening schedule on the LTAB web site for further information.
I realize that GEC members outside the US may not have access to OWN or be situated near future screening sites, but you can at least get a feel for this fabulous documentary by viewing the trailer below and checking out their YouTube channel!

Louder Than A Bomb chronicles four teams as they compete in the Chicago area teen poetry slam. Hopeful and heartbreaking, the film captures the tempestuous lives of these young poets, exploring ways writing shapes their world, and vice versa. This is not just "high school poetry," this is language as a joyful release, irrepressibly talented teenagers obsessed with making words dance. "Inspiring and electrifying..." Roger Ebert, Chicago-Sun Times "A celebration of American youth at their creative best..." Robert Koehler, Variety Louder Than a Bomb premieres Thursday, January 5 at 9/8c only on OWN.
