Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
Based on their reading of An Na's A Step from Heaven and their interaction with each other, our students co-created websites, ultimately answering the following essential question: How do individuals relate to their cultural beliefs when encountering another culture?
In designing our assignment, we targeted many of the skills necessary for global citizenship:
- digital literacy (internet safety and ethics, website formatting, blogging, etc.)
- perspective-taking and collaborating (students from different cultures working together)
- empathic orientation (writing from the perspective of the main character of A Step from Heaven, a Korean girl who emigrates to Southern California)
- knowledge of global issues (focus on immigration)
