Short Session Description (one line):

Our session presents and solicits feedback on a digital, collaborative unit for 7th graders at Chadwick School (California) and Chadwick International (Songdo, South Korea).

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

Based on their reading of An Na's A Step from Heaven and their interaction with each other, our students co-created websites, ultimately answering the following essential question: How do individuals relate to their cultural beliefs when encountering another culture?

In designing our assignment, we targeted many of the skills necessary for global citizenship:

  • digital literacy (internet safety and ethics, website formatting, blogging, etc.)
  • perspective-taking and collaborating (students from different cultures working together)
  • empathic orientation (writing from the perspective of the main character of A Step from Heaven, a Korean girl who emigrates to Southern California)
  • knowledge of global issues (focus on immigration)
We would like to share this assignment as a concrete example of global, collaborative learning and would like to hear feedback regarding potential next steps or new directions.
