Our next face-to-face event is happening soon...
Our Global Education Day meetup at the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Conference takes place on June 23, 2019. If you will be in Philadelphia then, come meet other global educators and organizations. We will be sharing resources and planning projects and events for the next year; attendees are encouraged to be actively involved. Our friends at the Global Oneness Project will also be at the ISTE conference in Philadelphia and are hosting this special FREE screening of the film Earthrise and panel discussion on June 24, 2019. Register today if you will be in Philadelphia! Space is limited!

Finally, here are a few items of interest that we’ve noticed this month.
- Hurry! Proposals are due May 6th for the AFS Global Conference taking place in Montreal this October.
- Applications are due May 23rd for the Japan-US ICT Teacher Exchange Program. The Japan-U.S. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Teacher Exchange Program provides the opportunity for U.S. grades 7-12 teachers to participate in a five-day conference in Hawaii in August 2019.
- The Experiment Digital is a fully-funded eight-week virtual exchange program for high school students from the United States and the Middle East region. Designed to connect students across the globe without leaving their living room, participants interact through videos, discussion forums, online chats, webinars, and playing games together. Through these activities, participants develop leadership and cross-cultural communications skills, speak with peers from different countries, and design youth-led projects to create positive social change. The exchange takes place online from June 24 – August 18, and students can participate from anywhere. Apply to join the 2019 cohort by May 20, 2019. Students ages 14-19 from the US, Algeria, Iraq, and Yemen are eligible.
- Sing the clouds away in celebration of Sesame Street’s 50th anniversary! Sesame Street is encouraging people to record themselves singing the iconic Sunny Days song from this pioneering children’s program. For details and to register, click here.
- Recognizing the experiential storytelling potential of immersive technologies like virtual reality, Digital Promise Global, the United Nations SDG Action Campaign, and Oculus have launched MY World 360°, supporting youth worldwide to create 360° media as a way to share their perspectives and advance positive action toward the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs). Read more about this initiative here; submissions are due August 15, 2019.
- Australian educator Bronwyn Joyce and her students are looking for refugees to share a bit about their stories using the video recording tool Flipgrid. Check out their project here: https://flipgrid.com/f55015b6and follow Bronwyn on Twitter for more information.
- The Global Kind Project is a global collaborative project organized by the Educator Collaborative. The Global Kind Project invites preK-12 classrooms to reflect on our individual and collective roles in building a more empathetic, positive and inclusive society through inquiry and social action. It starts on May 6th, but it looks like self-paced participation is possible at any time.
- iEARN has published a post on how to get started with their global projects. Become a member, join a project, find classroom partners, conduct activities and showcase student outcomes via their network. IEARN is also hosting a virtual exhibition on May 22, 2019.
- The 4th annual Inventor’s Challenge from Imagination.orgis open and submissions are due May 31, 2019. Kids around the world are invited to create inventions that will help solve problems in their homes, schools or communities using whatever tools and materials are available.
- The PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival is open to young people of all nationalities with a keen interest in the pressing social issues of migration, diversity, social inclusion, and the prevention of xenophobia. Submissions are due by June 16, 2019. (Via Connie Rensink)
- Check out the Global Online Academy’s fourth annual Catalyst Conference. The live portion of this virtual event is over, but you can still check out their plethora of student projects.
- Host a Global Goals Jam this September. The #GlobalGoalsJam is a two-day event consisting of short design sprints. Creative teams of designers, developers, and Jammers from the local community work together using a toolkit. Interventions will be created that will be aimed at short term targets in support of the long term goals. (Via Barbara Anna Zielonka)
- Take a look at this student poetry contest and workshop from the Pulitzer Center. Fighting Words: Poetry in Response to Current Events submissions are due by May 20, 2019.
- The ISTE Global PLN publishes a monthly newsletter that’s chockful of opportunities and ed tech information. Check out the most recent issue here.
