Welcome to the many new members who have joined our online community in the last couple of months! We are now 1700 members strong, and it's been exciting to see a variety of educators and organizations come together around global initiatives.
Please take a moment to visit the Global Education Collaborative and browse our resources and membership list ; you'll find networking opportunities and information to support your interest in global education. Some items you may wish to check out:
-several upcoming conferences and professional development events sponsored by groups including the Global Youth Leadership Institute, NAIS, Design Science Lab, the Asia Society, the World Affairs Council, the Center for International Education, the Multicultural Village program, Primary Source, NSTA, and the Stone Center for Latin American Studies at Tulane. (click here for a full list: http://globaleducation.ning.com/events )
-a Birds of a Feather meetup session at the National Educational Computing Conference posted by Diane Midness of iEARN
-many new ongoing projects that have been added to our database: http://tinyurl.com/67fo6g
-several requests for project partners including a school looking for resources related to the Dominican Republic, a high school teacher looking to partner with another class reading the Odyssey and a second grade teacher looking for other classes interested in studying the winter Olympics.
You can do one thing this month to help the GEC continue to grow. Please click on the Invite link at the top of the GEC homepage and invite a few friends to join us. We need more members, particularly from outside the U.S! Also, look for an announcement regarding our next set of online meetings.
I apologize for being a little off the radar the last few months. I had an incredibly busy March and April with traveling to the Illinois Computing Educators conference, the Celebration of Teaching and Learning in NYC, and WEMTA in Madison, Wisconsin.
I also have been in the process of changing jobs and just started working this week for the Center for Math and Science Education at the University of Chicago. I'll be helping with a variety of projects related to the Everyday Math program, professional development and technology integration into math and science content areas. Hopefully, I will have a bit of time to think about the global implications around math and science, too!
Finally, we've had an annoying spam problem and I've started moderating membership. I hope I don't have to do this forever, but it seems to discourage members who have other motives for joining our group. If you have any issues along these lines, please let me know.
Thanks for your ongoing support,
Lucy Gray
