measure the world

Greetings Fellow Educators,

I wanted to make you aware of a world-wide collaboration opportunity that is:
1. easy
2. fun
3. happening very soon
The Noon Day Project  involves students all over the world measuring the shadow of a meter stick at local noon, in late september.  The data is entered in an online spread sheet and used to calculate the circumference of the earth – reproducing the experiment of Eratosthenes 2000 years ago.

This is an easy project for students and educators.  All the materials and resources are provided at the website.  All you have to do is register (this week), and then hand your students a meter stick.  Here is the link for registration

Classes will have an opportunity to share a letter of introduction online.

I hope you will join us (and spread the word)!

It says it's closed for the summer...

    • It does, but if you go to the registration link it is open and there are already schools signed up.  I will contact the site manager.  Thanks,

      Steve
