We had another good turnout for our third online meeting of the year! If you check out the featured members of this ning under the Members tab, you'll see a few of the people who stopped to chat and/or listen on Friday night. Meeting #4 will take place today about 10 AM CST or GMT-6 for those in distant time zones.
You can see the replay of the meeting here. I don't think you have to log into Flashmeeting to see the replay (check out the word cloud that is linked here; haven't noticed that before), but if you want more detail, I think you do indeed have to log in. Meeting details can be found here which include a transcript full of really useful links.
Our meeting was rather free form and topics ranged from specific organizations and projects to barriers facing collaboration today. We heard from Alecia Berman-Dry about her school's initiative on global awareness, Westley Field on his school's work in the teen grid of Second Life and from Mike Searson and his work at the colleges of education level. Terry Smith also volunteered some of his projects as examples of projects that can happen based on cultivating individual relationships rather than working through an organization. Howie DiBiasi also discussed ePals and weighed on how we can get more schools to embrace 21st century thinking. We also heard from Ann in China and Anne and Jess in Australia. Anne and her students have recently returned from the Flat World Conference hosted by Julie Lindsay in Qatar.
All in all, it was another great opportunity for GEC members to get to know one another. We talked about topics for future meetings and decided that focusing on a tool might be helpful. So, during our March meetings, we'll probably focus on video conferencing and reaching out to other schools. More to come on this!
