Short Session Description (one line): In this session, Joe Dale will highlight best practices in the use of new technologies in world language teaching at primary and secondary school level and show you how to create your own personal learning network to support you along the way.
Full Session Description (as long as you would like): Publishing pupils’ multimedia work to a potentially worldwide audience can motivate children, raise standards in their work, promote creativity and give them a real purpose for their language learning. It can also facilitate assessment for learning opportunities, distance learning, forge international links and celebrate pupil voice.
The presentation will showcase some of the innovative ways language teachers are harnessing Web 2.0 technologies popular amongst young people in order to engage them in purposeful and relevant communication with virtual peers around the world and create new opportunities for personalised learning in and out of the classroom. We will also look in particular at the rise of the MFL Twitterati, a group of language professionals in the UK who like to share ideas and collaborate on a range of different projects through Twitter, videoconferencing, blogs and face to face meetups and suggest ways in which this dynamic community could be replicated elsewhere.
The session is aimed at primary and secondary teachers who are keen to find out ways they can use technology to enhance their language lessons and network with other like-minded colleagues in their local area and further afield.
