In the last decade we have seen the greatest development in technology, especially in the area of Info technology. Nowadays, we can use the internet to do almost anything we want. Education on the other hand, has always been an important part of all societies; thanks to the internet we are now living in a global society. My question to you all is, should we embrace online education as a way of learning?

  • I am not sure I understand this question? Are you questioning all of the online education programs that are out there?
    • Yes Michele, I would like to get your opinion on Online education in general. Do you think it is the future of education?
      • I think it online learning is the future of higher education but not elementary so much. When you look at all of the collaboration tools and virtual office applications that are available at universities, I don't think pure online education is far away. I do not have a problem with the concept. But it is not for everyone. I received my masters degree ( reading concentration in new literacies) online and I loved it. It is a credible institution and was VERY DEMANDING, but well worth it. Online education matched my lifestyle and personality. There are many others who NEED the face to face interaction. Now this can be done virtually online, but it is not the same to some people. I like Joel's idea of Blended learning as well. Sorry if I am rambling...in a hurry!
  • I do not think that 'pure' online education is an answer. What I do believe is that Blended learning is the key. I am involved in 2 European Union projects in this field with partners who have 7 years experience in this field.

I am convinced that adding offline (classroom) and online together, adds up to 3.
    • Thank you for the reply Joel. Your argument makes some sense but what about when its pure online education, is it not effective by itself?
