Study Halls are a part of every day student life in most schools. Students are given a safe/quiet place

to work on their assignments, etc. Students also get help from their peers and teachers. This session

will describe a series of free (no hidden costs) apps called Study Hall that promote peer to peer

discussions and on-demand help from in-class instructors. The session will describe in detail

lessons learnt from the district-wide deployment at Plano - how students are able to learn from

each other and how teachers are able to support students with online live tutorials. The session

is likely to be presented by a student and/or a teacher using the system at Plano. The apps are

available on the web, Facebook, iOS, Android devices.

    Is this a commercial presentation?
    • It is a commercial product, but this is NOT a commercial presentation. Study Hall has an "over-lay" on Facebook and helps students interact with each other and with the in-class instructor. There are several efforts aimed at "private, walled-garden" approach to social learning, i.e., mimic Facebook inside closed LMS. The aim is to start a "walled garden" vs. "open" approach to social learning. It will use Study Hall as an example, how students/teachers are using the same. But the emphasis is NOT on the commercial product. Thanks

Thanks for your submission to present at the 2011 Global Education Conference. Your proposal looks promising, but could benefit from some additional language that ties your work to the conference theme of global collaboration. The conference seeks to present ideas, examples and initiatives related to connecting educators and classrooms around the world with an emphasis on promoting global awareness and instilling global competency in students. This is not a general education conference nor a technology conference. Please review your submission and adjust accordingly, so that participants clearly understand how your work fits into the mission of the conference.
