Trinity School's World Languages Program offers a personalized, online approach to language acquisition where teacher is not "sage" but "guide" in a K-6 blended learning environment.
Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
What happens when a school seriously evaluates the meaning of its mission statement, eliminates its traditional Spanish language program, and adopts an innovative and collaborative approach to language instruction? In this session, participants will learn about a World Languages Program which is a fully blended (online and face-to-face) approach to language acquisition and cultural studies.
Trinity School's World Languages program is shifting notions of teaching and learning from a teacher-centric to a student-centric model. Currently at Trinity, an independent elementary school in Atlanta, Georgia, 480 students in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade are engaged in language immersion through Rosetta Stone's Online Classroom. This self-paced program forces children to take ownership of their learning and provides detailed formative assessment of language learning. Teachers guide and support every student in a unique way as they navigate language learning (a total of 14 languages are currently being studied at the School). Discussion topics will include: role of the language teacher, student directed learning and assessment, program strengths and weaknesses, and student metacognitive growth through self-paced language study.

This is now accepted.
Hi Megan
Thank you so much for your session proposal for 2011 Global Education Conference. At this time, your proposal has not been accepted. This could be because the topic was not relevant to the conference, or we felt that some aspects of the proposal needed to be improved or clarified. We encourage you to work on the proposal and re-submit it. The process for doing so is below. Re-submitted proposals must be completed by November 5th. Double check the wording for the Strands and Submissions and try to bring a global element into your proposal. It fits quite well under "examining the role of world language teaching in schools" in the curricular stream, but such wording needs to be added to your proposal.
To resubmit:
1. Go to http://www.globaled.com and find your proposal. You can do a search on your name to find it, or click on "My Page" in the top menu and then click on the "discussion" link on the left side to find it.
2. Edit your proposal (once logged into the site, you should be able to click on the "Options" button and then "Edit Discussion."
3. Email me (mirtschin@gmail.com) and let me know when you are ready for us to review it again.
Again, we sincerely appreciate your interest in participating in 2011 Global Education Conference!
Best wishes and hoping you can work your way into the importance and relevance to "global needs" to your proposal.
