Short Session Description: Shape students into lifelong learners and global citizens by modeling and providing opportunities for students to experience and share passion-driven learning with global collaborators and audiences.
Full Session Description:
The most effective and meaningful learning experiences occur within a community of passion-driven learners. Development of a global community requires the establishment of trusting and respectful relationships among and between teachers and their students. In such a community, members (teacher and students) share ideas, thoughts, and passions and their voices are heard by those in close proximity and by those in distance communities. Establishing such a global learning community is essential to the educator’s ability to personalize learning experiences based on the interests, needs, and inquiries of students and to promote the development of their learning passions.
Well-designed explorations or projects reinforce all of the outcomes recommended by the Framework for 21st Century Learning by incorporating the 4C’s of Learning and Innovation Skills, Life and Career Skills, the Key Subjects (3R’s), and Information Media and Technology Skills. Additionally students gain opportunities to build upon their strengths and further develop their weaknesses as they work collaboratively to achieve a final goal. Most importantly, students learn to respect and honor diverse cultures and individuals by collaborating to meet mutual goals.
