Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
Classrooms are increasingly diverse and globally-interconnected as community demographics shift. Teachers must be prepared to reach and teach all students regardless of race, ethnicity, cultural background, socio-economic status, religion, etc. This is an enormous task.
This session will focus on three dimensions of preparation that can guide training and professional development work to assist teachers with reaching all students:
- Understanding of the context of your own and others' cultural and global awareness;
- Integration of global and cultural perspectives in the curriculum;
- Responsiveness to the influence of culture on teaching and learning.
The session will unpack each of these three dimensions, provide ideas to incorporate them into preparation and professional development programs, and share resources to support this work.
