Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

This session will begin with a presentation on the importance and need to equip teachers as educational researchers from the prospective of teachers professional development. In order to develop well connected, globalized learners for the 21st Century, it is necessary for educators to also be competent participants in the globalised communities. One way to do this is through connections with fellow teacher researchers in a global community designed to achieve this purpose. The topic on the need to develop educational researchers is not new, but the scale and nature has changed dramatically. I will then discuss some challenges pose to the preparation of teacher as educational researchers in the Singapore context. . From here, I will explore with audience on developing strategies to overcome these challenges; particularly on taping the power of new media to enhance teacher researchers’ competency for authentic research experiences in the globally connected, borderless learning community. Essentially, we wish to tap on the following strengths of new media.

 (1) Power of New Media in identity development.Through building connections in the global educational research community. Enhancing understanding through sharing and solving common educational issues to meet challenges of 21st century education scenario.

(2) Power to New Media in equalization. Through extendsion of teacher researchers' voice to international audience. Enhancing diversity in global representation.

(3) Power of new media to reach busy teacher researchers. Through creation of informal learning space. Enhancing friendship, diversity and cultural awareness.

I will also share about our preliminary project where a new community emerges in Facebook, a popular new media platform. And share my visualisation on how it may develop into a borderless global platform in future.

Thanks for your submission to present at the 2011 Global Education Conference. Your proposal looks promising, but could benefit from some additional language that ties your work to the conference theme of global collaboration. Your proposed session may imply global collaborations and connections, but we need to see more explanation of how your work ties into our mission.  The conference seeks to present ideas, examples and initiatives related to connecting educators and classrooms around the world with an emphasis on promoting global awareness and instilling global competency in students. This is not a general education conference nor a technology conference. Please review your submission and adjust accordingly, so that participants clearly understand how your work fits into the mission of the conference.
