Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
Students who do professional courses in various institutions pursue their education basically to secure placements in various industries or do further research in their area of specialization. In India, the curriculum offered by engineering colleges includes theory and practice in core subjects, developing communication skills and conducting project work. Students of various disciplines get exposed to research work by way of doing projects in big industries and present their reports for teachers to evaluate the depth of content and award marks. The presenter, who works in one of the reputed deemed universities in the country, believes that the inclusion of project work in the curriculum provides scope for international collaboration, which would facilitate students to present their knowledge of an industry and language skills to teachers of international institutions. In other words, efforts could be taken to encourage students (who study technical subjects) to conduct projects in small-scale industries and project their findings. India being a popular nation in running small-scale industries, offers lot of avenues for enthusiastic students to conduct lot of research studies. It could be achieved by revamping the curriculum in such a way that students work on various small-scale industries such as Manufacturing Industries, Ancillary Industries, Service Industries, Feeder Industries and Mining and Quarries, and present their findings through online presentations to overseas instructors who could evaluate and award marks in collaboration with Indian teachers. It is worthwhile to mention that this sort of collaboration with overseas instructors is possible only by signing in an MOU with leading institutions across the globe. The objectives of redesigning the curriculum are
1. To motivate students to work on an industrial project efficiently.
2. To expose them to small-scale industries through projects.
3. To train them to present the project work effectively before teachers of overseas institutions.
4. To develop their communication skills and also prepare them for various industries.
5. To create an awareness of small-scale industries and their working culture among overseas instructors.
6. To develop interest among overseas students to collaborate with Indian students and participate in project work, if possible.
It is believed that the above-mentioned objectives could be met if curriculum designers and teachers work together to revamp the existing syllabus. In this presentation, the presenter would highlight the different types projects that could be handled by students of different disciplines and discuss the ways of revamping the curriculum to augment international collaboration.
