Full Session Description: This session will focus on the methods that North Carolina educators are using to engage students with various technologies in online World Language courses to build communicative competency. Digital textbooks for critical needs languages have been produced that students, teachers and other stakeholders can access for free. Culture Cafes are broadcast to link past, present and future students so that they can learn about many cultures and practice their language skills. Conversation coaches, who work with online students to practice their speaking skills, have made language learning come alive and helped students reach higher proficiency levels in Arabic, Chinese and Japanese. Participants will receive access to free online digital textboosk for Levels 1-5 Mandarin Chinese and Levels 1-2 Arabic. Come and learn about these successes and the plans for the future!
