Short Session Description (one line):

HELP WITH RURAL SCHOOLS ON THE EDGE OF THE KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

Full Session Description (one paragraph minimum):

My presentation and open discussion will be on developing global education and collaboration through the community based school trips I run to rural schools and orphanages in Africa and Indonesia.

Schools can become involved through trips as well as on line learning programs.

We need students to join a new online  focus groups to form a united nation approach to help aid these schools. These will run monthly for all to be involved

Those participating in field trips will be able to go the most amazing photographic safaris inside the Kruger National park.

Park rangers will teach them tracking and bush skills. We will also take night walks in the bush.

Accommodation is in the Sabi Sand bush River Lodge over looking the Sand river,

groups can watch elephants and hippos playing in the river.

Students will help and uplift others from disadvantaged backgrounds and also have rewarding and culturally rich experiences themselves. Life long school links and friendships can be made by developing sister school programs.

Programs are designed to help others but also to suit the individual schools and students aims, skills and strengths in order to build upon them.

During the session I will explain the benefits students and staff can gain through working in third world rural areas.

Discussion will take place on how the programs are specifically designed taking into consideration the needs of the schools and orphanages and how to develop programs that uplift, change and educate all involved.  Activities such as connecting drinking water, building shelter, painting, teaching computer skills and planting vegetable gardens can be tailored to suit the needs of the school or orphanage and student's goals.

We are attempting to develop curriculums that allows students in these remote areas  gain basic life skills that they can transfer in to jobs in their local community. We work with  individual students that chose the program and balance those with the needs of the project site developing global communication links and insights into the world in which we live.
