Short Session Description: Using one school’s collaboration with farmers in Haiti as a case study, we will discuss how to create a rigorous, standards-based project in the sciences that serves to enhance global competency.

Full Session Description: Since the 2010 earthquake, Tech Valley High School students have partnered with Ayiti Resurrect, a Haitian-American organization dedicated to healing and sustainable development. The students have applied engineering and science skills to design and implement a composting program, 1500+ tree reforestation, and solar food dryer initiative. This case study serves as a model of the integration of rigorous science with global competency. The workshop will discuss the general practices of global project based learning and the specific process of establishing and maintaining the work in Haiti.
