Full Session Description (one paragraph minimum):
CTAUN proposes a session on the role that educators can play in introducing the work and the agenda of the United Nations. Educators have a role to play in heightening awareness of and commitment to the UN Millennium Goals (MDGs) which outline the global challenges that need to inform public policy and future educational planning.
The CTAUN annual conferences at UN Headquarters have brought together UN officials as well as academics to explore specific themes related to the United Nations and the MDGs -- e.g. human rights, peace, literacy, sustainability, social justice, poverty and development. They serve to introduce participants to the work of the United Nations, its associated agencies, and the role that civil society can play in advancing these efforts.
The proposed CTAUN session will share highlights from our past annual conferences and reflect on how such conferences can contribute to global awareness.
The session will also introduce teaching resources from various United Nations agencies and from Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that can help to foster global awareness.
