Spam Apologies and More....

Hey GEC members -

I believe a spammer slipped through the moderation queue in the last day or two, and I just want to take a moment to apologize. Please let me know if you EVER have a suspicious message, and I'll take care of the person in question immediately. Usually, I  can weed out spammers by looking at their profiles, which tend to be skimpy and lack information related to our interests here. Occasionally someone slips through who isn't as obvious, and when I do realize this, I ban them from our community as quickly as possible.

Anyway, on to more important things!

First, I'm holding a workshop in Wisconsin tomorrow for a group of charter school educators interested in global collaboration. We'll specifically be focusing on how to find partners for projects and such, and I'd love it if GEC members want to share their stories, pitch their projects or organzations, or would just like to stop by to welcome this group. For further details, visit this group.

Secondly, here are a couple of recent items from the discussion forums that may be of interest to you:

  1. Carol Anne McGuire is looking for participants for the next iteration of Rock Our World which will focus on food. She is particularly interested in finding schools from South America and Africa. Contact her here.
  2. Kids Talk Radio Wants to Collaborate with Teachers Around the World
  3. Make sure to check out this cool photo project that's the brainchild of a TED prize winner.
  4. Those interested in project-based learning (PBL) may want to take a look at the World Savvy Challenge
  5. High school science teachers may want to investigate the U.S - Russia Virtual Science Challenge for Youth
  6. Follow that Peach is a fun project related to Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach and is mostly geared toward elementary students. This might make a great activity for parents to do with their kids.
  7. A GEC member from Education Generation is looking for your input in funding scholarships for students in need. Check out her post here!
  8. GEC friend Homa Sabet Tavangar recently wrote a great piece for the Huffington Post. It's worth a read!

Finally, stay tuned for announcements about the 2011 Global Ed Conference. Steve and I are both busy and have a technical glitch that we need to attend to before opening the call for proposals. I'll be sure to let you know when things are ready to roll. In the meantime, volunteers should join this group, partners and sponsorship information can be foundhere, and if you are interested in serving on the international advisory board, please apply here

Thanks for you time,
