Talking Kites Around the World

Earlier this month we celebrated iEARN’s 25th Anniversary with a Teddy Bear Picnic. This week, we celebrate another iEARN project that uses a favorite childhood object to connect classrooms worldwide: kites.

Beginning March 20, iEARN continues its annual tradition of designing, building, and flying kites with personal and group images of peace and our dreams for a better world. Students and teachers around the world are putting the finishing touches on their kites in preparation to fly them during the vernal equinox. Ruty Hotzen, iEARN-Israel co-coordinator and Talking Kites Project facilitator, writes,

I’m calling students, teachers and communities to fly kites on and around the Equinox day (March 20) as a tribute for children’s rights on the footsteps of Janusz Korczak‏. Students make kites to fly as a massive tribute dedicated to advancing the cultural and social dialogue, a symbol of bridging the gap and understanding the ‘other.’

We welcome you to follow our Facebook page & the Twitter hashtag #TalkingKites this week to see this year’s images. Happy Spring!
