Co-Chair

Dear GEC Members,

First, there have been a couple of spammers who have sneaked by our member approval system and have left messages for several members. These spammers have been removed from our community and their content deleted. Our apologies for not catching them when they joined our network.

Second and more importantly, we would like to thank each and every one of you who have actively been a part of the Global Education Conference community. This 10-year run would not have been possible without your enthusiasm, interest, and expertise around globally connected teaching and learning. We will especially miss the hundreds of volunteers and presenters who have been so professionally generous.

At this time, we have made the difficult decision to sunset our online community and discontinue our virtual and face-to-face events. This means that Global Collaboration Week, the Global Education Conference, and Global Education Day at ISTE are canceled for the foreseeable future and most likely will not resume without funding sources. We have struggled for the last few years to find steady sponsorship and unfortunately, we have not been successful. Maintaining our various websites and social media accounts and managing our events cost money and an extraordinary amount of time. We have to focus on making our respective livings.

Until August 6, 2021, you will still be able to access our community, contact members through the community messaging system, and view our resources including hundreds of recordings from our previous online conferences. We recommend that you download any recordings you would like to preserve before August 2021. After that date, our site and recordings will no longer be available. Our keynote presentations posted to YouTube WILL continue to be available for the foreseeable future. Our digital newspaper, the Global Education Report, which is auto-curated daily from dozens of global education feeds will most likely cease to exist in its current format as well.

You will continue to hear about Steve’s Learning Revolution events through occasional emails and we hope that you will partake in these terrific offerings. Steve is also open to producing events through his consulting work. Contact Steve at steve@learningrevolution.com.

Lucy is also open to collaboration related to globally connected teaching and learning. Contact her at lucy@globaledevents.com or at lucy@lucygrayconsulting.com.

Again, thanks for your support over the years. It’s been a great ride and we continue to believe that global education work is more important than ever. Keep on advocating for connecting students and teachers to the world and stay safe in this age of COVID-19!

Steve Hargadon and Lucy Gray

  • This is so disappointing. I came here often for inspiration and ideas. Thank you for leaving it up for the rest of the year so we can take advantage of the resources.

  • Lucy and Steve.  After retiring, I haven’t had much connection to you two, but this is really sad news.  Given the amount of time and effort the two of you put into this venture and the amount of time you offered to others, it is amazing to me that you never found a major sponsor.  I know this must be hard for you but I imagine, you will com I rue to make a difference for others in your work.  Thank you for this Herculean effort over the last ten years, and all the best in the future.  Patrick Faverty
