Full Session Description (as long as you would like): The objective of this session is to introduce two specific online tools that promote collaboration among teachers.
The first part of the session will focus on presenting the Inter-American Teacher Education Network (ITEN). ITEN is a professional network of leaders in education in the Americas that promotes cooperation on issues related to teacher education and professional development among the Organization of American States (OAS) member states. ITEN’s free virtual community, launched officially in November 2010, brings together teachers from the region to allow them to collaborate and learn about innovative pedagogical techniques through webinars as well as scholarships, job offerings, the latest educational publications, resources, conferences and events.
The second part of the session will focus on presenting the recently launched Inter-American Collaboratory on the Teaching Profession (Co-TEP). Co-TEP is a collaborative free online bank created to allow governments, academia, and the civil society to share policies, good practices, experiences and research related to the teaching profession in the Americas. Co-TEP is a horizontal cooperation tool envisioned in accordance to the United Nations Post-2015 dialogues in education, which foresees the provision of quality education for all. Believing that teachers are a key component for achieving this goal, Co-TEP aims to strengthen the teaching profession in the Americas by providing visibility to policies, programs and practices in this field.
After participating in this session, teachers will be able to perform the following activities using the resources of the ITEN virtual community:
- Creating thematic groups and sharing resources with colleagues;
- Participating in forums and exchanging key information through online debates;
- Sharing videos and photos of their classrooms and practice;
- Participating of webinars on topics related to the teaching profession and practice presented by specialists;
- Participate in Co-TEP, engaging in a collaborative knowledge bank by browsing, downloading and contributing with resources on the teaching profession in the Americas.
