Full Session Description (as long as you would like:
This session introduces a curriculum regarding food from around the world as a tool to gain some insight into diverse cultures. The children are encouraged to bring recipes from home/family and/or their native culture to share with their classmates. This could be done by featuring one or two children and their recipes each week or through a potluck at the end of the term.
The presenter will share an interview with a server from Peru now living in Bellingham and working in a restaurant in order to provide an example of including community members in the curriculum. Resources will also be shared including outreach programs which may be accessed, lists of markets in the Bellingham community, and suggestions for activities leading up to the sharing of diverse foods/snacks.
The presenter will read a story, share a song and some examples of what children have done to share their experiences of a 'public market'.
