Full Session Description:

Teaching effectiveness has been discussed by many researchers and scholars striving to ‎identify the elements that represent effective teaching. It might be attributed to the broadness ‎of the concept which necessitates numerous definitions. ‎Despite the extensive range of previous studies on teaching quality, further studies in this ‎regard are required as context plays a key role in how students perceive quality of teaching and how teaching quality will influence students' empowerment.

A definition of empowerment is difficult because it takes on different forms in different ‎contexts (Bradbury-Jones et al., 2010). Its complexity is such that empowerment has even ‎been described as a ‘slippery issue’ (Bradbury-Jones et al. 2008). Chandler (1992, p.65) ‎defined empowerment as: ‘to enable to act’, while Rodwell (1996) considered it as ‘a process ‎of enabling people to choose to take control over and make decisions about their lives’ (p. ‎‎309). ‎This presentation will explain the key determinants of teaching quality and explore the link between teaching quality and students' empowerment.
