Full Session Description (as long as you would like): The Trasher Kids is a multi-disciplinary media
project which incorporates elements of music production, art, social awareness, community
development, creative writing, video production, enginnering, and environmental protection.
The project came to life in 2011 when a volunteer educator named Román Mora came to
FARO Oriente in the southern delegation of Itztapalapa in Mexico City to give a workshop
to youth on music production and sound engineering. Youth in that first workshop, inspired
by the popular music group Gorillaz, decided to create their own version which they called
The Trasher Kids. The name emanated from the fact that every Wednesday one of the
biggest Flee markets can be found in the neighborhood which surrounds the FARO.
This market is not what you might call a traditional market, but instead more like a place where
people look to recycle old and used. So out the youth went - on a wet acid rain filled day in
southern Mexico City looking for their characters in the trash of the Flee Market in Iztapalapa.

The characters that were created included: Toxin, Taiwan Lee, R 222, and Beat Man.

The first Trasher Kids band created all of their own costumes (including sewing in LED´s for nightime concerts, instruments and stage fittings and have mixed numerous songs to date, performed 6 live concerts and are currently working on their first music videos. http://ccemx.org/2013/10/24/thetrasherkids/

Since those early beginnings The Trasher Kids is now becoming a project in its own right.
Seeing the enormous potential and reach of the project Intel Clubhouse Coordinator Alejandro
Jimenez at FARO Oriente is collaborating with curriculum developers at Jacaranda Education
to create a project which can be replicated with youth in sites all around the Mexican capital and beyond.
