Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
Exposing students to multiple perspectives of events and issues helps them develop critical thinking skills and become more globally aware. Through the use of high-quality media websites, teachers can deepen students’ understanding of world events and cultures. This workshop will introduce teachers and librarians to globally-focused websites for articles and news such as PBS Wide Angle and NewsHour, Television News Archive, and Global Voices. The Primary Source Librarian will highlight how to effectively find and use content from these resources in the classroom.
Participants will explore news clips and articles from these resources and examine ways to incorporate global content into their classrooms. Primary Source’s online library of global resource guides will also be shared, and teachers will leave with avenues and tips for finding and locating additional online content for their classes.
