Sacramento, California
Language in Which You Will Present: English
Target Audience(s): Teachers
Short Session Description (one line):
Find out how one class is making connections beyond letters: students in Sacramento and in a village in Burkina Faso are about to show each other how they see their homes, towns, friends and schools "through their eyes."
Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
A French class in Sacramento and a Peace Corps Volunteer in Burkina Faso (West Africa) were matched through the Peace Corps World Wise Schools Program. Much of the exchange includes ongoing correspondance between my students and the volunteer, and between my students and the students of the village. There is no electricity in the village, so internet communication is not an option. This year, my class and I decided we wanted to do more than write: we wanted to share our lives and learn about theirs in a way that goes beyond the letters. Come find out how we will bridge the electricity gap to see eachothers' worlds "through their eyes". If time permits, I will also share how the students in Sacramento are supporting the needs of the village school.
If time permits, we will also talk about service projects
