Short Session Description: Personalising the learning experiences within global projects requires a rethink in the learning design and assessment processes.

Full Session Description:

Gail’s ‘WebToWhere’ global project won 1st place in the ISTE SIGOL Online learning Award in 2012. This award recognises creative teachers for their pioneering use of telecommunication networks to provide innovative learning opportunities for K-16 students. Gail found that using action research to integrate Web 2.0 and participatory media into the global classroom helped to personalise the learning experience for students. Global classroom projects provide opportunities to connect educators and classrooms around the world while promoting global awareness, fostering global competency and integrating real world learning into the classroom. However, students need to be active and valued participants if ‘real’ learning is to take place. This session will look at how the learning design and assessment processes within global projects can be fine-tuned to encourage a more personalised approach to learning. This session will discuss the next stage of development for the ‘WebToWhere’ (see, http://webtowhere.ning.com/group/globalclassroomprojects) global project and the experiences that have been learnt to date.
