Learn how Web 2.0 tools can serve as a digital platform to support teachers and students as they develop a critical consciousness and enact a critical pedagogy in a globalized world

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

A central tenet of critical pedagogy is developing a critical consciousness. Critical consciousness encompasses cultural awareness, diversity recognition, and active learning toward creating a sustainable future in a globalized world.

In classroom practice this process is reflected in teachers enabling students to become critical thinkers by questioning the status quo and in particular analyzing critical notions of knowledge and what knowledge is valued nationally and globally, the relationship between knowledge and power, and the recognition of individual cultural, political, historical, and social context of teaching and learning.

For urban educators, challenges associated with equity and access of online content deepen the challenge to developing a critical consciousness. However, Web 2.0 tools such as Padlet, Smore, and Zaption, serve as digital platforms, supporting teachers in creating activities with media rich content that offers students an alternative perspective and pathway to criticality and global competency.
