Short Session Description (one line):

The use of blogs to surface evidence of deep learning among students from the content generated and student writing style.

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

As teachers, we must aim for our students to achieve deep learning. Evidence of deep learning is seen when students can explain new facts and ideas in their own words, can cite relevant examples or add context, and can relate new facts and ideas to their own experiences. However, it is observed that students typically decide how they should perform depending on what is expected of them by the teacher. Perhaps, the major influence on the students' approach to learning are the assessment methods defined in class and the way a teacher designs a blog assignment can influence how students perform on the assignment.

The presentation shows initial results on the use of blogs to surface evidence of deep learning among students. Blog posts were analyzed based on the content generated and student writing style. Results show that an unstructured blog assignment design facilitates deeper learning compared to a structured blog assignment design.

Is the Brady Corporation a for profit organization?

    Thanks,

    Lucy Gray

    • It is just the company I currently work with; not associated to my research or presentation in this conference.

The blogs in my proposal were hosted on the Ning platform.

If you are planning on mentioning the work of your employer, then you need to contact Steve Haragdon at hargadon @gmail.com. If the the content of your presentation is not related to your work, then that is acceptable. However, your proposal in itself is not focused on the mission of the conference. This is not an ICT or general education conference.
Please review the mission and the strands and submission pages on this ning to see what we are looking for. You can then edit this proposal and re-submit to us for review.
        Thanks!
