Google provides many free online tools that can be integrated with the strategies in the book, Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that Works (2012, Pitler, Hubbell, & Kuhn). Participants will learn how to apply some of the most powerful of these tools to improve the teaching of global awareness and competency as well as engage students by linking nine categories of instructional strategies with educational technology applications, examples, and resources.
A Google Certified Teacher and McREL Education Technology Consultant with guide participants as they apply strategies and Google Applications in example lessons such as Google Docs to provide opportunities for peer feedback and metaphorical analysis and Google Sites to allow students to collaborate and facilitate international project based learning through their own digital portfolios.
Participants will need to have a Google Account set up in advance (https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount) so that the facilitator can share out Google Sites and a Goggle Doc with them.The session concludes with a brief overview of the many applications available to educators found at the Google for Educators website (http://www.google.com/educators) and their correlation to strategies such as nonlinguistic representation, cooperative learning, and providing feedback. Some of these include Google SketchUp, Google Earth, and Google Lesson Plans.
