Short Session Description (one line): Case study using Second Life to connect world language students in Finland and the US
Full Session Description (as long as you would like): In 2011, Students from The University and Eastern Finland and Middlesex Community College in Bedford, Massacusetts met in the virtual environment Second Life. The purpose was to connect the native English speaking American students who were studying Finnish with the native Finnish speaking students who were studying English, to share language and culture. Additional participants joined from Harvard University in Boston and a US Department of Education conference in Washington DC. This presentation/discussion will explain the process, challenges and findings of this collaboration, and potential future plans for further virtual exchanges between language learners globally.
