Learn to find excellent primary sources online for your global studies curriculum and build lessons around them that enhance your students’ 21st century skills.

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

During this session, participants will consider the importance of using primary sources to teach world history for K-12 students.  In particular, they will learn how primary sources can give voice to history’s “voiceless” communities and peoples, how primary sources can provide students with authentic and engaging historical experiences, how using a variety of high-quality primary sources can provide students with a deeper and more nuanced historical experience than texts alone, and how a fresh approach to primary sources can promote the development and mastery of 21st Century Skills.

Additionally, teachers will learn how to find and identify high-quality primary sources on the web.  They will explore Primary Source World, a free, online curriculum offering based on the use of primary sources, as well as other websites that feature useful World History primary sources.

Teachers will also learn how to create and implement primary source-based lesson plans and activities, and they will learn how to improve media and IT literacy and deepen student analysis of primary sources through the use of emerging technologies and Web 2.0.
