In today’s technological age, Social networking sites, like Facebook, Youtube and Twitter, are connecting millions of people together providing them a way to connect with their intimate friends and also a way to connect with larger communities globally. Social networking is a shared space for collaboration, social connection and information exchanges in a web-based environment. The purpose of this session is to discuss about the promises of social networking in education and challenges in integrating social networking in education. This session examines how the use of social networking can help in expanding access to education, and improving quality of education so as to provide global awareness about its positive role in education. Through this session, we will able to understand the global access and quality of education. Social networking can promote access to education through anytime, anywhere technology access and access to remote learning resources such as overcoming social barriers, access to lifelong learning, access to e-learning, access to distance and open education, access to e-library etc. The session discusses that social networking can improve quality in education on the basis of OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) quality indicators which may be set as global competencies of using it in education. Despite the many benefits of social networking, there are also some significant challenges that need to be faced. The session discusses key challenges in integrating social networking in education which are privacy, safety, technical and resource related challenges which also emphasize on the real-world problems of using it practically.Of course, Social networking is a global phenomenon used by millions and millions of users around the world in different ages, cultures, education levels etc. The paper sets out to open up discussion about the recent trends and future possibilities of using social networking in education as these sites are globally used.
