Short Session Description (one line): In this presentation, we would like to introduce the voluntary teachers association for improving education in Indonesia called 1000guru.

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

1000guru.net is a website as well as a professional association developed in order to support the improvement of education in Indonesia. The association is developed by professionals and graduate students who study abroad and have a passion to maintain the continuation of their participation on the development of the national education. These professionals and graduate students assure that distances have not become barrier anymore for them to continue on facilitating learning and improving education in Indonesia. This association is formed in order to:

1. share vision, improve effort, and motivate students,
2. facilitate whoever who willing to share professional or live experiences and knowledge to schools in Indonesia.  

The association is open to public, informal, and flexible. In general, there are three elements in the association. The first component is the schools in Indonesia. The second component is the association administrators/facilitators, and the last component is the voluntary teachers. The schools that become a target of 1000guru.net program are the high school (grade X-XII). However, today, 1000guru.net is accommodating the request of participation from junior high school (grade VII –IX) as well. In total, there are 95 voluntary teachers have been dedicating their times and effort on helping up on improving 1000guru.net program. These teachers are spread all over the world. The 1000guru.net administrators are voluntary teachers who dedicating themselves to help in maintaining website, information, mailing list, 1000guru publication, etc. in addition to their primary voluntary tasks.

There 5 major programs on the 1000guru.net:

1. Conducting teleconference with schools in Indonesia
2. Creating and sharing educational videos
3. Publishing and sharing 1000guru educational magazine
4. Assisting on developing sister school
5. Facilitating discussions between teacher to teacher through the mailing list and Facebook
