Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
Did you go to school? For 99% of us, the answer to that is yes! And, like most of us, you probably spent 12+ years of your life there. As a result, you are guaranteed to have some deeply embedded stories and beliefs about what school is, what it looks like and what comprises a good education – the kind of education you want for your children.
So what if I told you that likely everything you think you know about school, learning and education is just plain wrong?
You are invited on a journey to re-examine the following assumptions you make about school:
Purpose: Schools were created to educate people to become critical thinkers and valuable members of society.
Curriculum: We all need to learn what is being taught in schools. It’s about the basics.
Socialization: Children benefit from being socialized at school. It prepares them for the world.
Grades: Assessing children’s work and assigning grades is a good and valuable practice that is necessary for learning.
Homework: Children should do homework because it helps them learn.
By the end of this webinar you will be shocked, horrified and amused at how much you have taken for granted about our current schooling that just does not hold water.
So if you want to be able to make a truly informed decision about the kind of education you want for your children, join me, Zahra Lightway, for "What Parents Don't Even Know They Don't Know About School, Education & Learning"!
