Short Session Description (one line): Integrating Cultural Diversity into Team-Based Learning

Full Session Description (as long as you would like): As Royal Roads University increases its enrollment of international students and implements its vision of educating global citizens, it is important to examine the practice of team-based learning with an intercultural lens. While students with diverse cultural backgrounds can create an exciting learning community, faculty must also pay deliberate attention to designing team activities and facilitating team work across cultures. Students also need to be learning skills related to working in teams across cultures so the advantages of diversity can truly flourish and the conflicts resulting from cultural differences can be managed and transformed into enriching learning experiences. This paper highlights practice and challenge related to cultural diversity and teamwork at Royal Road’s International Study Centre (ISC) and discusses ways to enhance team-based learning in an intercultural setting.
