  • Hi Becky,
Thanks for your message. Having a collaboration partner would be refreshing! Unfortunately I work alone to create my units and since I am just in my second year of teaching (second career) it feels overwhelming at times.
I am one of two teachers of the gifted in our board. The other Gifted teaher works in a different school. Unfortunately she is not interested in collaborating. She has been in Gifted education for over 25 years and has a wealth of resrouces and units she has done over that time. It is really too bad she doesn't want to collaborate as she is an absolutely amazing teacher with awesome ideas.
The set up for our Gifted program is students attend our class once a week from Oct to June. I currently have two classes (one pullling students from the south end of our Board and the other the North and West end) Class sizes are 16 and 19 students. I have a classroom in a school in a central part of the county. Although I am in the school I am not totally part of the school as my Principal (Principal of Special Education) is located in the Board Office. I go to the school Principal for school related reasons but my main supervisor is my Spec ed Principal. Makes for a different situation as I don't attend staff meetings or professional development with the school staff but instead with the Spec. Ed. staff. I only travel to the sending schools in Sept and Dec just prior to intake to meet with classroom teachers and students. I may make school visits occasionally on other occasions where need arises. I am only half time so finding the time can be difficult. I set up a Wiki page to help support Teachers, Parents and Students. Check it out:

Your feed back would be appreciated.
How about you? What does your department look like? Do you have any ideas for units for next year?
