Our multiage class (6 and 7 year olds) is studying whales and whaling (Martha's Vineyard was a center for whaling in the 1800's). Using a whaling chart from 1851, artifacts which sailors brought back to Martha's Vineyard, and a young girl's journal from her trip with her father in 1862, students are re-create local history and discover how places around the world have had an impact on their community.
You might want to check out the movies we posted here - you will see evidence of primary resources in their presentation.
I am very interested in your title. Director, Eastern Regional Teaching with Primary Sources Partnership. Very enlightening.
We also went to the LOC for a three day workshop a few years ago to learn about teaching and learning using primary sources. It was a fabulous experience.
