The U.S. Fund for UNICEF has established the BE UNICEF program to provide Colorado teachers an opportunity to discuss global education, identify resources, and create opportunities for their students to take action to address global problems. At our free BE UNICEF Teacher Institute in June, thirty Colorado secondary teachers will acquire valuable insights (and materials) in global education and collaborate with like-minded colleagues on lessons and activities to bring back to the classroom. We are presently working with a local university to arrange for professional development credit.
We will also feature a special guest from UNICEF, Dr. Changu Mannathoko. As Senior Policy Adviser, Dr. Mannathoko provides technical support and expertise in the areas of gender equity and girls’ education, capacity development, child-friendly schools, safety and security in schools, HIV and AIDS prevention, life-skills based education, and United Nations partnerships for girls’ education (UNGEI). She will share her experience of 25-plus years of work worldwide, with a special emphasis on the Eastern and Southern Africa region.
This FREE institute for middle- and high-school teachers will be at the Daniels Fund in Denver from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, and Wednesday, June 15, and lunch will be provided. Both pre- and in-service teachers are invited to apply by June 7 at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BE_UNICEF. For more information, email teachUNICEF@unicefusa.org.
