To further reinforce its global engagements in island research and innovations, the Catanduanes State University will hold the 2014 International Graduate Symposium on Biodiversity, Island, Culture & Society (BIOISLANDCULTURES) during the 4th Philippine National Biodiversity Meeting (BIOME4) and second National Conference on Science Education and Technology(SEDTEC) on October 20-22, 2014.
The three-in-one event will be organized in cooperation with the Provincial Government of Catanduanes, Green Philippines, Inc., the IUCN-CEC (Philippines),Biology Teachers Association of the Philippines - Catanduanes Island Chapter,and research students of Hohenheim University –Germany.
Academicians,researchers, policy makers, and other advocates of biodiversity, naturalresources conservation, and climate change, are invited to attend international symposium and national scientific meeting/conference.
Bioislandcultures seeks to provide an understanding of the global significance of biological diversity of small and sustainable islands vulnerable to the various natural disasters like typhoons,tidal surges, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes that will have impact on the human populations and the unique flora and fauna in coastal andupland communities.
Proposals and abstracts for the BIOISLANDCULTURES- BIOME4-SEDTEC2 can be submitted on or before October 6, 2014. This 2014, the first International Graduate Student Research Symposium on Bioislandcultures will focus on Biodiversity and Productivity in Abaca (Musa textilis) Farms; Mountain Streams,Rivers, Estuaries and Wetlands (REWs) of the coastal areas.
Synchronizing with the conduct of International Graduate Symposium is the Philippine National Biodiversity Meeting (BIOME) in Catanduanes. Biome aims to provide a venue for researchers, teachers and practitioners to present their studies, innovations/inventions, and experiences in the fields of biodiversity, climate change, science education,educational technology and sustainable development.
Meanwhile,also taking place in the two-day event is the Science Education and Technology (SEDTEC) National Conference.
A registration fee of Three Thousand and Five Hundred Pesos (PhP 3,500.00) or USD100 will be charged to each participant that will cover snacks, lunches,material, certificates and other incidental expenses.
