I am a 5th grade teacher at a medium-size private school in Fort Worth, Texas. I have been challenged to make some international connections via technology for the coming school year. I am open to any and all suggestions -- collaborative story writing, sharing books, studying periods in history, etc. Would love to discuss with you!

Hi Chandra,
I'm sure Afghan female students in Jalalabad would be happy to interact with your students. They also love Skype connections to link up face-to-face. Please take a look at their website here: http://gceafghanistan.ning.com/. The girls could also join a site you create for your project, but keep in mind they have little experience with wikis and other applications. They technical skills are basic, but their English skills are remarkably quite good.
If this interests you, feel free to contact the Project Director in Jalalabad, Abdul Qaum Almas, at: abdulqaum_almas@yahoo.com
You can also contact Steve Brown of the La Jolla Golden Triange Rotary Club Foundation in San Diego. Steve's e-mail address is: StephenRBrown@att.net
HI Chandra,
Yes sure. I am interested in joining you :)
May I have your email in the message? so that I can further discuss with you.
Thanks a lot.
Cheers,
Sally
You might look at two free projects from ePals to guide your collaboration. The Way We Are (exchange information about life in each place) Digital Storytelling (create or retell story, using whatever web 2.0 tools, cameras, etc. you wish)
If you made a virtual field trip of your school and community, you could post it on ePals to share with other children safely around the world!
Visit New Zealand, Idaho, or Senegal in the videos already posted there. "A Day in the Life" videos are fascinating too!
You can also sign up for free, safe and teacher monitored student email, called SchoolMail. This email, unlike gmail or other mass market emails, has teacher monitoring and easy ways for teachers to use emails as alternative assessment in writing.
ePals has other powerful collaboration tools through LearningSpace.
You can both join the Heinle online community to practice English, powered by ePals LearningSpace: http://heinle.epals.com.

Thank you for the information. The ePals "Way We Are" is something I thought about last year, but never got around to getting serious about it. Perhaps this summer I can figure it out. I will also check out the other information you shared with me.
May we join?
We are 5th grade students from Hungary. My students learn English as the second language, but these projects can motivate them very much.
We could work together on a project or make a skype call.

Write me by e-mail, please, if you are interested in.
Tothne -- wonderful pictures. I would love to connect for the 2010-2011 school year, which starts in August here in the United States. Let's keep in touch during the summer and make plans. I am not sure what types of projects we could work on, but I am sure we can come up with something. I believe we do have the capability of doing skype calls, although I have never done one before.
Dear Chandra,
Thank you very much....
Our school year starts on 1st September, so we have time to make our plans.
We could keep in touch by e-mails:my e-mail address is dondi645@gmail.com
I am waiting for our meetings very much.
Thank you again:
Gyöngyi
