Hi, my name is Mindy Faber and I am the Director of Open Youth Networks, a program of Chicago Filmmakers that trains youth to use digital technologies for civic and social action. We are offering a limited number of scholarships worth $1,000 to Chicago area teens to participate in our two week Fair Use Remix Institute (July 7-18th). If you live around Chicago, please consider nominating a few of your students by the June 1 deadline.
Complete information and application forms are available at www.youthlab.net and are attached below.
FURI is a two week workshop focusing on the broadly popular cultural form of political video remix and how it relates to copyright law, free speech and the Fair use Provision. Youth participants will become fluent in Final Cut Pro, blogging, video sharing and will be introduced to Photoshop and Dreamweaver as well. They will be taught by two award-winning video artists including Jonathan McIntosh from Rebellious Pixels in NY. In addition, experts from the Center for Social Media at American University in Washington DC will teach youth how their video remixes and mashups that they create are protected by Fair Use provisions. They will be given numerous speaking engagements at high profile events and their video remixes will be broadly distributed via The Center for Social Media, YMEX, Remix America and Political Remix Mashups.
This program is supported by the McCormick Tribune Foundation.APPLICATION scholarship FURI.doc
