Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

Social media tools and the human spirit ignited revolution across the Arab World in 2011. Experience how educators use live video conferencing to connect students to people living through political turmoil. Transnational solution-building sessions which make use of Web 2.0 and live video conferencing technologies empower students to tackle the most controversial and compelling issues of our time – in real time. Further, school-wide events help shift school culture, allowing for critical dialogue about controversial, real-time political events. Such methodologies empower students to collaborate across physical, cultural and political boundaries, developing leaders who act for what they believe in.

The Research Journalism Initiative, the Centre for Global Education and TakingITGlobal partner to offer an ongoing series of multipoint video conferences. By bringing students into direct contact with people living in conflict daily, these organizations offer a new and engaging approach to global studies which humanizes politics and encourages dialogue.

We will share the following through webtour and slides:
- Examples of themes and video conference topics
- Use of technology for multi-point video conferencing
- Challenges to multi-point and what we've learned about effective moderation
- Asynchronous technologies/curriculum for before and after the live event.
- Sample lessons and units, how teachers are integrating our work into their classrooms
- Explanation of how we're using existing organizations/networks in partnership

  • Very exciting topic especially that I am an immigrant from the middle east who has immigrated 27 years ago. Are we going to know the times of when the presentations are or we can join in anytime during the conference?

    Thanks,

    • Thanks for your note, Najwa.  All of these postings are just applications to present still; once they decide which ones to include in the GlobalEdCon event, they'll put out a full schedule of all of the events.  I'll definitely post about the ones I'm doing on my website, so you can check there in a week or two: www.principledlearning.org.

      Jennifer
